This fort is octagonal and its western and eastern sides are long. This fort on the north side is connected by a bridge from Salimgarh. It is 900 meters long and 550 meters wide and its ramparts are in a circumference of 2.41 km which are 33.5 meters in height towards the city and 18 meters high along the river. On the outside of the ramparts is a trench which was initially connected to the river. The Union Jack was waving at the ramparts of this fort for 90 years, and on 15 August 1947, Pandit Nehru proclaimed the independence of the country by hoisting the tricolor.

Nakkar khana: - The main gate of the palace for the musicians is known as Nakarkhana.
Diwan-e-Aam: - Diwan-e-Aam was the place where the king used to meet the common people. Here a main throne was built right in the middle of the eastern wall for the king. The diwan-i-aam had a gold rail. The ceiling of the throne consisted of pearls and she was standing on a pillar of gold, in which diamonds were studded.
Nahr-e-Bahisht: - Nahr-e-Bahisht is the royal private chamber behind the throne with a row of domed buildings on high platforms at the eastern end, overlooking the banks of the Yamuna River.
Zenana: - Two places in the palace have been built for women, one of which is Mumtaz Mahal which has now been given the shape of a museum and the other is Rang Mahal where very beautiful and naive ponds are built in which the water by Nahr-e-Bahisht Is flowed.
Khas Mahal: - In this palace, royal rooms were built for the royal family, which includes a bedroom, prayer hall, a verandah and Musaman Burj. From the Musamman Burj, the king used to see his general public.
Diwan-i-Khas: - Diwan-i-Khas was also known as the private meeting hall of the king. This was because there was only entry of members of the Raj family here. Diwan-e-Aam was for the general public. Here the king used to talk about his political matters with his special people.

It is a small cave with three domes made by carved white marble.
Hayat Baksh Bagh: - It is a large formal garden which means life-giving garden. It is divided into two portions. One pavilion is situated at both ends of the north south Kulya and another was later built in 1842 by the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.
